Ebb and Flow II

Inspired by many springtime visits to the River Otter near my studio, this abstract piece seeks to evoke a vivid sense of place. Early pastel studies made en plein air allowed me to capture the rhythms, sounds and atmosphere of the landscape, which then informed the final work. Brushstrokes dance across the canvas like dappled light on water, echoing the movement and energy of the river. Created intuitively from memory and sketches, this painting forms part of a pair, its companion piece has already found a home.
