Thank you to everyone who visited and supported the joint exhibition ECHOES which ran 26th March til 7th April 2022 at The Malthouse Gallery, Lyme Regis, it was a huge success!

Previously unknown to each other, at very different life stages and with very different backgrounds, Eilean Eland and I are now building a strong on-going art partnership after making contact through Instagram. After initial tentative correspondence, we are now collaborating on a joint exhibition that has been a rewarding journey of discussion and reflection, identifying sometimes unexpected echoes in our art practices. We both work from our standpoints as women, and our inspiration arises through our womanly sensibilities.

I reached out to Eilean via Instagram when I fell in love with her female figure ceramic sculptures and I thought our work could compliment each other’s. The experience has demonstrates the positive power of reaching out in challenging times to connect with motivating and inspiring individuals and enabled a liberating and exciting way forward.

My latest work celebrates colour, the joy, beauty and complexities of womanhood – what we hold, how we cope and flourish. As always, my work is primarily inspired by the exquisite natural world as the seasons change. This new work embodies a dreamlike quality of abstraction – reflecting elements of various subjects including landscape, florals and figures.

Eilean’s sculptural female figures are statements celebrating the powers, strengths and emotional contexts of womanhood. There are so many images of women that have been produced by men from an objective, frequently sexualised standpoint, and as a woman Eilean wants to make work grounded in the internal subjective experience of being a woman. She lives in her inspiration!
